How To Draw A Cursive W

A cursive capital W is easy to write. It's almost exactly like a handwritten capital W. The lowercase cursive w is also almost exactly like a lowercase handwritten w. The pair are one of the easier cursive letters to learn when practicing and learning the cursive alphabet.

The letter w in cursive usually connects to the letter a in words like:

Cursive w's also connect to the letter r in many words. Some of these include:

After you become comfortable with writing the letter w in cursive, practice writing "wa" together as well as "wr." These are called "connectors" and will help you understand how cursive works to form words.

Writing an Uppercase W in Cursive

As you see in the diagram (above), begin the capital W barely below the topline creating a small tail at the top left of the letter. Then, coming slightly to the right, take your stroke down to the bottom line. Bringing your stroke back up, slightly below the top line. Make a quick loop and bring your stroke back down to the bottom line. Finally, finishing your initial stroke going back up once more to the top line, completing the letter. Like a few other letters in the cursive alphabet, W does not connect to other letters when forming a word.

Writing a Lowercase w in Cursive

Begin your stroke barely below your midline, making a small tail off of the left of the letter, then bring your stroke inward and up to the midline of the paper you're writing on. Next, take your stroke to the bottom line, like lowercase u and v, make the half "o"shape going back up to the midline. Finally, take your stroke back down to the bottom line and leave a small tail out to the right to either end the letter or connect to your next letter.
