How to Draw Cartoon Insects like a fun beetle
This simple tutorial will help you learn to draw cartoon insects like a beetle! No, it's not just the name of a famous rock band from the 60s or a funny (and rather original) car!
It's also the name of a cute and colorful insect species! In this tutorial, you will learn to draw a Coccinella septempunctata, or if you prefer, a beetle!

Step 1
First, draw a large circle to illustrate the body of your character. When you are finished, draw another circle (but smaller this time) on the bottom of the first one to create the head. Look on the image above to see the exact position of both shapes.
Step 2
Next, add the legs of your beetle by drawing some lines. You can draw three lines on each side of the insect. When you are done, add a small triangle on top of your character. This shape will be used to create the effect of open wings later in this tutorial.
Step 3
Work on the face of your insect. Add two circles to create the eyes of your beetle. Then, sketch some small antennas on top of the head.
Step 4
To make your character look even more realistic, refine the outline of the head. Notice how the bottom of the face is pointed and narrow. You can also join the two eyes together to create a unique personality to your beetle.
Step 5
Now it's time to work on the body of your character. Like I said earlier, the wings of your beetle should be slightly opened. Make sure that it's the case by drawing something similar to the image above.
Step 6
Finally, add the black spots on each wing of your insect. You can also make the legs thicker and more visible.
Step 7
The coccinella also has two small wings hidden behind the big red ones. Sketch two circles to represent these wings.
Step 8
Add some colors to your character for the final touch. If you are able to give a little transparency effect to the small wings, your drawing will only look more realistic this way.
