Why We Started VeniExpress

When our founder, Myrna Steinbaum, was working as a phlebotomist in a medical laboratory, she would often see elderly patients come in for their blood work either with a family member or by ambulance. She had the thought that one day she should start a mobile phlebotomy team that could go to the homes of elderly, very sick, or disabled patients, so they wouldn't have to go the hospital or laboratory to have their blood drawn or samples collected. Then one day, Myrna met an elderly woman in the emergency room who specifically asked if there was a local company that could come to her home to draw her blood. The woman said she didn't have family in the area, and taking an ambulance to the hospital every time she needed blood drawn was very expensive. It was then that Myrna became determined to start a mobile phlebotomy team.

Over the next several years, Myrna dedicated herself to researching, obtaining the proper licensures and certifications, and building the foundation for her mobile phlebotomy business. In 2010, Myrna opened VeniExpress in San Diego and began offering mobile blood draw services.

Our company has since expanded our services to include much more than blood draws. We now offer mobile specimen collection, onsite drug testing, and DNA collection services. We service all of Southern California and Arizona.

How We Got Our Name

The prefix "veni" has Latin roots and means "pertaining to vein". Up until the 1990s, the term venipuncturist was used to describe an individual who took intravenous samples. (Venipuncturist literally means "one who punctures a vein".) The title "phlebotomist" is now the term used within the medical community to refer to someone who draws blood, but the centuries old prefix "veni" is still often used to describe the sampling of blood. We coupled that term with the word "express" to communicate the convenience associated with a company that comes to you for blood draws, specimen collection, drug testing, and more.
